Peppermint

Aftershave Lotion

Aftershave Lotion

Prep: 5 minutes              Yield: 8oz

Ingredients:
Directions:
  1. Add the oils and beeswax into a microwave safe bowl or glass measuring cup.
  2. Microwave in small increments stirring until the beeswax is melted.
  3. Stir in all other ingredients.
  4. Whisk for about 30 seconds. (I used a little hand mixer)
  5. Poor into the bottle right after leaving an inch or more of room. If it gets too thick to poor, stick it back in the microwave for a few seconds.
  6. Store in a cool place and it will last until it's gone.
The oils in this are completely interchangeable per preference. Some oils are definitely better for the skin than others, so do your research before adding one.
Rosemary is a very strong oil which is why I added less drops of it.
Add Peppermint if you want a tingly feeling.
Frankincense, Sandalwood and Tea Tree are some other good ones.
I love the smell of Cedarwood so this works for me, but you can simply substitute it with more lavender for a less manly smell.

*I actually use this as a body lotion too. I love that I know exactly what's in it and how good each ingredient is for my skin. It's alcohol free so it leaves my skin feeling so smooth and it's surprisingly not oily at all! At first I couldn't really smell the oils, but after it dries it leaves the most delightful scent. If you want a stronger scent (basically so everyone can smell you when you walk by) add a few more drops of each oil.

Why these ingredients?

Almond Oil helps moisturize and enrich the skin.
Olive Oil is a moisturizer and an antioxidant. It helps in preventing premature aging.
Beeswax has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. It seals in moisture without clogging pores. It also helps thicken the lotion.
Witch Hazel helps tighten pores without the sting from alcohol.
Aloe Vera Gel has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Cedarwood has a warm and woodsy aroma and helps moisturize freshly shaved skin.
Lavender promotes a youthful glow and helps heal irritated skin.
Rosemary is complicated. It improves skin hydration and elasticity. It is beneficial in eliminating eczema, oily skin, and acne. It can also promote hair growth - which is opposite of what we're trying to accomplish here. So ladies, use at your own risk. Haha.
